The foundation of KVK Khunti, the 23rd KVK of Jharkhand, was laid by the then Secretary DARE and Director General of ICAR, Dr. S. Ayyapan, on May 5, 2014, and since then it is under the administrative control of ICAR-NISA, Ranchi. Khunti is a newly created district in 2007, has six blocks viz. Khunti, Torpa, Murhu, Rania, Arki and Karra. The main attraction of the district is the village Ulihatu, which is the birthplace of the Indian tribal independence activist, and folk hero, Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Khunti is spread over an area of 2611 sq. km with a population of 5.32 lakhs.
